CLIMATE-CHANGE DISCOURSE ISSUES

  • Desired Development Outcome: DAVSPE aims to build resilient communities capable of adapting to and mitigating climate change effects. We envision climate-smart agricultural systems, healthy ecosystems for safe food production, climate-resilient infrastructure for efficient social service delivery, and robust partnerships addressing environmental challenges.
  • Alignment with Global & National Agendas: Our programming aligns with SDGs 1(1.5), 2(2.4), 4(4.7), 13(13.1, 13.3), and 15. We support mainstreaming climate education into curricula and research for sustainable consumption. This drives Africa Agenda 2063 low-carbon production systems and Uganda Vision 2040 climate mandates, directly addressing local crises like shifting rainfall patterns, prolonged droughts, frequent floods, and emerging disease vectors.
  • The Need: The imminent danger posed by climate change requires urgent, proactive action to ensure sustained national and global growth. Evidence-based research and visual art dissemination are critical to enabling coherent policy advocacy, building local adaptive capacities, and driving systemic mitigation actions before irreversible damage occurs.
  • Our Contribution: DAVSPE will collaborate with stakeholders to conduct applied research that generates critical climate-resilience knowledge. We will compile mitigation innovations and case studies, utilizing visual art to package and widely disseminate this information to empower vulnerable rural and urban communities.

  • Anthropocene Threats & Geopolitical Sovereignty: Assessing global climate threats and their impacts on national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and human-environment relationships.
  • Inclusive Ecosystem Resilience & Dialogue: Balancing ecosystem functionality with the human rights, adaptive needs, and dialogues of marginalized and vulnerable populations.
  • Sustainable Production Models: Innovating frameworks for sustainable production, economic reproduction, and climate humility in an era of rapid climate change.
